Botanical collections

The Botanical Department and herbarium sends specimens for scientific research from most collections to other herbaria registered in the Index Herbariorum External link..

Search our specimens

Roughly half of the botanical and mycological collections are digitalized and searchable in our Herbarium Catalogue.

Temporarily unavailable

Botanical and mycological collections at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (S) are currently unavailable for loans and visits because of extensive renovation of the botany building inaugurated in 1916. During this extensive renovation, the botanical collections are stored ex-situ. However, collections begin to be returned into the building during spring 2024.

During the renovation period, we still take care of loan returns, and gratefully accept gifts and exchange material. Please feel free to contact us at herbarium@nrm.se for further information or if you have any questions.

Visits

You are welcome to visit us, but you must contact us in advance via herbarium@nrm.se to agree on a time and be able to prepare your visit. We can offer access to libraries, microscopes and some laboratory facilities.

Loans

The Botanical Department lends specimens from most collections to other herbaria registered in the Index Herbariorum. Contact herbarium@nrm.se if you want to borrow specimens from the herbarium.
