Have you seen a harbour porpoise?
These shy whales may be difficult to observe in the wild, but with your help we can gain valuable information about Sweden's only endemic whale.
If you see a live harbou porpoise we would love to recieve as much information as possible on our reporting website External link.. You can also send in photos and videos.
We review all reports, publish approved observations on the map at our website and send in yearly reports to the HELCOM Biodiversity database External link.. Data is also published by the Swedish biodiversity infrastructure (SBDI)
External link. and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)
External link.. The reports act as a supplement to the systematic monitoring of harbour porpoises by the Swedish Museum of Natural History
External link., carried out on behalf of the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.
Details we need from the observation:
- Finding location
- Date of finding
- Approximate distance to the porpoise(s)
